Professional Advocacy
I specialize in providing mental health treatment to individuals and families impacted by trauma. Many forms of trauma are preventable, and have systemic causes. Sexual violence, intrafamily violence, intimate partner violence, child abuse, violence rooted in racism, xenophobia, transphobia and homophobia — all of these forms of violence are made possible and even probable within a culture that tolerates, indoctrinates, and enables this harm. As a therapist, one of my ethical requirements is to advocate for my clients and against the systems that harm them. Advocacy to address the root causes of trauma is an essential part of what I do as a trauma-focused practitioner. Below are a few examples of my advocacy in action.
Please note: Clients are never expected to or required to participate in advocacy efforts. I will never include client information in my professional advocacy, unless a client expressly requests this.
